Seller says "These speakers do not get a whole lot of low-range frequencies" I'm looking at the pics and I think the woofers may have been replaced or possibly (generic) re-coned . These should have 421-8LF in them--shouldn't they have metal dust caps? Regardless, if they have the original tangerines in them they're still worth the asking price plus some money left over to deal with the woofers.....

Being of "Sound" Mind
Exterior dimensions work out to 12.3 cu. ft. With a lot of EQ (2 of them) they will sound great.
addendum, everyone lowbrows anything other than 604, 416, 515's, but let me assure you that, the musical Altecs with their superior power compatibilities, can kick ass as well as anything. I love them. All I can say is WOW!
Just went and saw "Kansas" at Minot Civic Additorium sitting second row center right a mear 20 feet from from the keyboard player. They had an array of 12 each, stereo JBL arreas(how do you spell it?), which sounded lacking. I am listing to much better right hear at home on my lowing Altec instramentals.Chearyou nspell it?

Sorry thought it so obvious on the domes did not mention it. Standard practice always check cone numbers even if they look right.
Actually we reconed all our 421's with solid paper, getting rid of the aluminum sounds better for Hi-fi. We used to weigh paper domes to find ones the same weight as the aluminum.
With the right frams and subs these could kill. Start as is and build 'em up, cheap way to get into Altec.

I have the original cones in mine, the 421-8LF with the metal dust caps, and yes, in that cabinet they need a lot of EQ to get anything resembling bass. As mentioned, they go well with a helper woofer. I don't think they were ever intended to run alone. Here they are on their way home. They cost 500 CAD which was about 450 USD at the time.
Nothing like a great big pair of speakers to make your day.
